Account Information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture from Google.
Prompts You Create: Private prompts are stored only in your browser. Public prompts are stored on our servers (Firebase) and are visible to all users.
Votes and Interactions: When you upvote or downvote prompts, we record this action linked to your account.

Information Collected Automatically

Usage Data: We use Google Analytics to track anonymous usage patterns (pages visited, time spent, browser type).
Device Information: Browser type, operating system, IP address (anonymized).
Cookies: We use essential cookies for login functionality and Google Analytics cookies for usage tracking.

2. How We Use Your Information

To provide and maintain the Service
To authenticate you when you sign in
To display your username on prompts you publish publicly
To improve the Service based on usage patterns
To detect spam, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service

3. Local Browser Storage

Promptbook stores your private prompts using your browser's localStorage feature. This data:

Stays on your device only
Is never sent to our servers
Will be deleted if you clear your browser data
Is not accessible to us, advertisers, or third parties

We strongly recommend exporting your prompts regularly using the built-in Export feature.

4. Public Prompts

When you choose to make a prompt public:

The prompt content becomes visible to all visitors of the Service
Your display name and profile photo will be shown as the author
Other users can vote (thumbs up/down) and copy your prompt
The prompt may appear in search results, trending lists, and category pages
You can delete your public prompts at any time

Important: Once made public, others may have copied or saved your prompt. Deletion removes it from our database but cannot retrieve copies others have made.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

Google Firebase: Authentication and database (Google Privacy Policy)
Google Analytics: Anonymous usage tracking (opt-out link)
Google AdSense: Displays ads to support free service (how Google uses cookies)

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only:

With service providers (Firebase, Analytics) under their privacy policies
If required by law or legal process
To protect rights, safety, or property of users or the Service
In case of business transfer (acquisition, merger)

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of your data
Delete: Delete your account and all public prompts
Correct: Update incorrect information
Export: Download your prompts (built-in Export feature)
Withdraw Consent: Sign out and stop using the Service

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us immediately.

9. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, Firebase security rules, and authenticated access. However, no method of internet transmission is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Data Retention

Private prompts: Stored in your browser until you clear data
Public prompts: Stored until you delete them or your account
Account data: Stored until you request deletion
Analytics: Retained for up to 26 months

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. Significant changes will be announced via the Service. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision.
